Population
• Nearly a quarter of the population of 37 million live on less than US$1 a day.
Children
• 1 in 10 children die before their 5th birthday, but the numbers are much higher in the slums of the capital city, Nairobi, or the dry rural areas in the north of the country.
Health
• Malnutrition levels have increased significantly in the past year, with one in three children in parts of north-east Kenya suffering from malnutrition.
Food
• High food prices: The effects of election-related violence in early 2008 disrupted farming activities. Maize prices are 80-120% above normal and water prices have risen by 110%
Water
• Wells and water pans have dried up. People are now walking an average of 35 km to reach water or land to graze their livestock.
Farming
• Less than 20% of Kenya’s land is suitable for farming. The country doesn’t grow enough food to meet the needs of its rapidly expanding population.

Ecclesia Ministries Orphanage project is (part of the E-missions program) focuses its activities on children and young people. They have the greatest capacity to transcend the conflicts of their communities and to bring about change in the future.
Children are increasingly amongst the most vulnerable in conflict situations; conflict isn't always the result of war. Poverty, desperation and anguish also create situations where children suffer violence and neglect. Your support to this project will greatly help to improve the quality of life for the children of Kissi.
